Dear Colleague
We are delighted to invite you to the fifth and final seminar in the
ESRC series on 'Locating Technoscience'. The final meeting will be
held at UCL on the 13th of September 2007, and will be followed by a
celebratory wine reception.
In the final meeting of this series we are seeking to address the
political and policy dimensions to the project of creating a
'geography of scientific knowledge'. Speakers will introduce their
work from a range of spaces at the boundaries between science and
politics, scientific and artistic practice, and academia and pubic
policy, including confirmed contributions so far from Hugh Gusterson
(MIT), Ian Welsh (Cardiff), Nicola Triscott (The Arts Catalyst),
Kathryn Yusoff (Open University), Mara Miele (Cardiff) and Jon Agar
(Cambridge/UCL). Full details will be posted on
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/sts/locating-technoscience/seminar5.htm as soon
as they are available.
In concluding, we hope to explore how spatial accounts of knowledge
and power can contribute to the better governance of science, and
consider the implications of 'locating technoscience' for all
institutions involved in the production of knowledge. We are very
grateful to everyone who has made this such an enjoyable and
successful seminar series so far, and we look forward to the
contributions to this final event.
If you would like to attend please get in touch with Helen Wickham
(<mailto:[log in to unmask]>[log in to unmask]). As before, we
have a number of bursaries available for PhD researchers and others
without any travel funding, so please let Helen know if you would
like to be considered for this.
Please feel free to forward this invitation to colleagues and
graduate students who you think might be interested.
With best wishes
