A position is available immediately to work in the group of Dr John Rafferty at
the University of Sheffield for structural studies of proteins involved in DNA
recombination in Gram-positive organisms. The group focuses particularly on
those proteins that bind Holliday junctions and has determined structures of
three different junction resolvase enzymes and a DNA complex. The study will
centre around X-ray crystallographic investigation of protein-DNA complexes but
a range of biophysical and biochemical techniques will be applied as necessary.
A strong background in structural biology is required and additional skills in
molecular biology and macromolecule purification are highly desirable. The
applicant must be a confident team player and have excellent spoken and written
English. The post is funded by the BBSRC and is tenable for three years.
