Epidemiology: an introduction to concepts, theories, principles and methods
This introductory course on the concepts, principles and methods of epidemiology will be based upon Raj Bhopal's textbook: Concepts of Epidemiology. Oxford University Press, 2002, pp317. The book won first prize in the public health section of the prestigious British Medical Association book awards in 2003. The course will aim to cover in one week most of the material in the book, bringing participants to the level of introductory epidemiology in Masters level courses in public health. The teaching will comprise of lectures (maximum three hours per day), small group exercises, and self learning through tackling test papers (with answers discussed by the whole group). We anticipate 10-20 students with a maximum of 30.
