The post
Further Success for the Mathematical Sciences Unit within HSL has meant
that we are looking to increase our team of numerate specialists. Working
in a wide range of multi-disciplinary teams, our aim is to contribute
directly to improving the lives of working people. You can expect to
manage and work on a diverse portfolio of projects within the occupational
health and safety sector and be involved in all stages of ongoing
epidemiological and statistical work. You will also be expected to develop
the profile of the section through the development of new ideas.
Your role
For the post you will be expected to ensure delivery of the work of the
Section to time, cost and customer satisfaction, whilst complying with
health, safety, environment and quality standards; undertake and
contribute to statistical studies on worker well-being; and support
project bids to both HSE and non-HSE customers; you will need to work well
with colleagues in HSE?s Statistics Branch; you will be able to make a
personal contribution to the scientific work of the Section ensuring
specialist knowledge remains up to date. You will help develop HSL?s
reputation in Statistics through developing and maintaining professional
networks, publications and attending conference and meetings.
Person requirements
You must have a good first degree in a numerate subject with experience of
statistical analyses or a post graduate degree, with substantial
numerate/statistical content. Alternatively, another statistical
qualification at an equivalent level or substantial statistical experience
in a commercial/financial or academic environment.
In addition be able to:
work as part of a team, working collaboratively and flexibly,
communicate well with the ability to contribute and respond
constructively,
deliver quality results to deadlines,
plan, organize and prioritise work effectively,
make recommendations based on sound analysis of data,
Ideally, you will have some practical experience of relevant specialist
statistical packages such as SPSS, Stata or SAS.
