There are many reasons to attend the British Society of Criminology Conference this year. The full programme is now available on-line at www.lse.ac.uk/bcc2007. If you've booked then we're looking forward to welcoming you at the LSE in a few short weeks. If you have yet to book then please do - especially if you're requiring accommodation (only a few rooms remain) - we're in the heart of London you can't miss us!
Highlights of the conference include: a joint publishers' reception hosted by Sage Publications and Willan Publishing on the evening of Tuesday 18th September, to celebrate their key publications in 2007. This will take place in the Shaw Library on the 6th floor of the Old Building, from 6-7.30 pm.
There will be two major plenary sessions. In the first Professor Jonathan Simon of the University of California, Berkeley will discuss the Implications of the War on Crime, and in the second, Shami Chakrabarti (Director of Liberty), Rod Morgan (Ex-Chairman of the Youth Justice Board) and Anne Owers (HM Chief Inspector of Prisons) will debate Where Next for Criminal Justice Policy?
We are also delighted to be hosting four authors/editors meets critics sessions, including new books by Jock Young, Robert Reiner and David Wall, and the new edition of the Oxford Handbook of Criminology.
During the conference Professor Barry Goldson will be canvassing support for a specialist group/network for Youth Justice/Youth Criminology and will be encouraging you to attend the session on Wednesday afternoon to discuss how to take this development forward. If you are unable to attend, but are interested he encourages you to contact him directly: [log in to unmask]
