Hello,
Let me quickly summarize the joint meeting of WG5 and J3
just concluded in London last week.
The schedule for publishing the standard has been stretched
a bit to allow more time for preparing the document and
to allow more time for f03 compilers to appear. f08 should
be published about 9 months later than originally planned,
I don't know when the documents reflecting the new schedule
will be posted on the web. Public Comment on f08 should be
later this year. Stay tuned.
Co-arrays remain in the language, very slightly simplified.
The BITS type was removed, but most of the functionality
remains, or will be added.
The Macros facility was removed, both to reduce the size
of f08 compared to f03, and because there is a concern
that macro preprocessing is not the right way to add
generic programming to Fortran.
Otherwise, the feature list was not changed.
Many thanks to Ian and Jane for hosting. They did a great job.
Thanks to BCS for providing the meeting rooms.
BTW, if you visit London, get an Oyster card before going.
They're well worth it. How much money to put on it
depends on how much you think you'll be using trains and buses
around town.
