Well, having to come from such a long way, I find it a lot easier to fly into Newcastle and catch the train to Durham than having to get a train or drive anywhere around the country. With a total travelling time of about 2 hours, for me it's not exactly onerous, and Newcastle airport flies from loads of local airports around the country. The conference last December took place in the Business School with the accommodation on the same site, this was very convenient and considerably cut down on unnecessary travelling, as well as improving our surroundings (it's like a parkland campus). Although in terms of national boundaries, Durham doesn't look like it's central, it's easy to get to, and I know colleagues from local Institutions in Wales, and ones even further south (over the channel) feel the same, and technically, the centre of Britain is in Northumberland, about 20 miles Northwest of Durham. I'd cast my vote in favour of keeping it where it is.
