Since mid-June I have worked in a phone company call center. I've
slandered, libeled, and heard words I never read in the Bible. The 8th
time you get called a fuckhead you stop hearing it. Some
callers--especially white southerners--are thrilled that I "talk
American" sans an accent of India or the Philippines. Many of our calls
are randomly monitored and recorded. One of my coworkers thinks I am a
racist: I am because I don't suffer morons even if they are black. Oh
well. The 11 hour shifts get to you.
Customers are real brave when they're on the phone and can hang up on you.
There is no poetry in any of this.
