You may have heard of it already, but I think it is interesting
information to share.
Reading the European Council's detailed (and boring!) mandate to the
IGC, I have discovered that the provisions on Sport will be kept in the
new treaty. Whether it will pass the ratification stage is a different
matter.
According to the current proposal the IGC is working with, sport would
lose its own article, to be included in an amended version of the
current Article 149 EC, on Education, youth and vocational training.
That was, by the way, how the first draft out of the Convention included
Sport. The wording of the article seems to be very much the same. So
still quite some work to do for governing bodies to get their 'sporting
exemption' recognised.
