Cataloguing Archivist
Fixed term – one year
£21,025 - £25,822 per annum
We are seeking to appoint a Cataloguing Archivist who will arrange
and describe the foundation collections of the North East of
England Mining Archive and Resource Centre (NEEMARC). This exciting
role offers the opportunity to make a significant contribution, by
establishing and developing a new archives centre, focusing on one
of the region’s key historical industries.
This post is part of a Heritage Lottery Funded project which aims
to arrange and catalogue archival material from the collections the
North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers
(NEIMME), the National Union of Miners Durham Area (NUMDA) and the
National Association of Colliery Overmen, Deputies and Shotfirers
(NACODS).
You will receive day-to-day support from the University Library
Services cataloguing team to further the task of organisation of
the material, and you will assist in the process of upskilling
those members of staff in basic archival procedures. You will be
supervised by the NEEMARC Project Manager and you will also work
closely with the Archive-Skills Consultancy, who provide advice and
support to the project.
You will have a recognised postgraduate qualification in archives
management and demonstrable experience of cataloguing a variety of
complex archives to professional and international standards. Good
interpersonal skills, the ability to work well alone and in a team,
in addition to effective time management skills to meet goals and
deadlines are also a requirement.
