Before making a final decision you also need to review how you actually use and link to files, how your CMS (if any) works etc., how you are implementing EDRM ...
Having version and date metadata in the file name can play havoc if people link to the source file direct.
E.g. You have a web page, or internal policy document which links to "The_Rough_Guide_to_Cumbria_1.0" . It will still point to that when the current version is 3.0 (or link will be broken if 1.0 has been removed / relocated). At the present time we therefore keep all such metadata out of the names of active files, although they may appear in drafts, recording the metadata and version history elsewhere.

We have been mulling over this as well. I was told that spaces can cause problems with hyperlinks.
We are going for the following format:
Type-title-yymmdd-v0-1 for drafts, v1-0 for final doc.

Subject: File Naming
Dear All
We are currently mulling over a corporate standard for file naming:
[DATE] YYYY-MM-DD [TITLE] The Rough Guide to Cumbria [VERSION] v.0.1 [AUTHOR] CPark
The debate has become slightly complicated as we cannot achieve consensus on the question of do underscores need to be used and if so where - we had recommended having an underscore between 'components' but it has been suggested that a space will suffice.
I would appreciate any comments or guidance.
Many thanks
Claire
