"Wavelength", shot in an 80 foot long NYC loft, is a 45 minute zoom to a
pinned-up photo of a Quebec lake where Snow spent childhood vacations. The
soundtrack is a sine wave progressing from its lowest note to its highest,
though I can't remember if the energetic jazz trombonist Roswell Rudd, who
has an acting role in the film, contributes at all to the music. I love
Hollis Frampton's cameo as a dead red herring. Frampton studied with Pound
at St. E's. Recently, I was able to ask the second generation structural
filmmaker James Benning about the impact on "Wavelength" on his recent "13
Lakes" and he acknowledged its significance. I remember seeing
Snow's "Rameau's Nephew" at the Oakland Museum in 1974 and afterwards
noting numerous Bay Area artists in the audience, including Ron Silliman.
