ANALYSING QUALITATIVE INTERVIEWS
Department of Primary Health Care, Oxford
13th and 14 September 2007
AIMS OF THE COURSE
● To introduce the principles of qualitative data analysis, with
particular emphasis on thematic analysis techniques
● To demonstrate how to develop themes and codes from interview
transcripts
● To use practical exercises and small group work to develop
competence in these techniques
● To discuss some of the pros and cons of using CAQDAS
N.B. The course will not provide training in computer packages for
qualitative
analysis. We recommend people attend a specialist course for
this.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
● Those planning to undertake or manage qualitative research using
in-depth or semi-structured interviews
● Those who have already collected qualitative interview data that
they are unsure how to analyse
WHAT WILL THE COURSE CONSIST OF?
● There will be two full-time taught days with the option of
taking a couple of hours practical work home on the first afternoon
● Participation in both taught days is required
● An optional session on how qualitative data can be written up
for peer reviewed publications (at the end of the course)
