Hello all,
Many thanks to those who answered my queries regarding binding. I have
informed from 7 trusts (nearly all acute Trusts)
I = a 'tally' mark
(1) Methods: Comb or thermal (with steel spines if using UniBind) binding
used; (one Trust does both)
Comb: 3; thermal: 4 (Pennine do both)
(2) Delivery of service/turn-around times– policies
Immediately III (unless
busy/staff
unavailable)
Leave document (c. 1hr+) II (I, if urgent;
10-15 mins)
Self service: I (plus II if quite a few copies or v. urgent and staff are
not available)
No info: I
Essentially –
3 Trusts will do the binding immediately whenever possible but ask for the
user to wait if staffing restrictions/levels of library use dictate. I
looked to see if there was a correlation between the method used and
policies regarding immediate service; the method used did not seem to be a
critical factor (two Trusts asked for the document to be left, one used
thermal binding and one comb binding).
However, references were made to how quick and easy thermal binding is.
Trusts which offered self service (either as their policy or if v. busy
and staff not available) use comb binding.
(3) Prices: Free - £1 (comb binding); 40p [self service]; 50p; £1; £1.50
(thermal); £5 (thermal, if hard cover)
(4) Stated rationale for pricing: consistently, a price to cover cost of
materials.
Kind regards, thanks again for the information.
Hope this summary is useful.
