I have responses to some of the questions raised at the sessions for
DynaMed and CKS training.
1. Topic reviews - If there is nothing in the section - does that mean
there is nothing written - we are waiting on something - or that it
isn't relevant for the topic ?
Answer: It means that it isn't relevant for the topic. We're working
on
adding language that says as much for sections that aren't relevant.
The team knows about the issue and it's on their schedule to update
topics as they can.
2. Are all the Cochrane collections considered in producing the topic
review?
Answer: Yes, Cochrane is considered.
3. How are the journals to be reviewed chosen?
Answer: Here's a link to the sources we monitor:
http://www.epnet.com/dynamed/sources.php
<http://www.epnet.com/dynamed/sources.php> ( I will get another
response for this - Julie)
4. Do we show conflicting evidence - ie - if there are 2 trials that
are negative - but some other trials that are positive - ? How is
this
found in the review?
Answer: Yes, we do. Search smallpox, references, third bullet under
"general references" says Medline, "click for details", it shows the
articles that we used and the ones that we didn't. Rotator cuff tear
is
a good example where we deal with lots of conflicting evidence. See
treatment section for injections and surgery.
5. Do we have any plans to make the topics downloadable in PDF
format?
Answer: We don't have at this time plans to download to PDF.
Can
you describe the "use scenario" (translation, how would clinicians use
it?). If they want to print it out the print function does a pretty
good job. Let me know if you want me to persue this - perhaps give me
some examples of requests for this.
6. PDA Specifications - how often is it updated.
Answer: DynaMed on PDA is updated each time the device is
synchronized
with the computer. http://www.ebscohost.com/dynamed/technical.php
<http://www.ebscohost.com/dynamed/technical.php>
Also - the DynaMed weekly update is available to opt-in.

DynaMed Weekly Update is a compilation of 1 to 5 articles that are of
significant interest to clinicians. Articles are selected from
DynaMed's Systematic Literature Surveillance
<http://www.ebsconewsletter.com/eletra/gow.cfm?z=dmweeklyupdate%2C196211
%2C0%2C1104009%2Cb11> as articles most likely to change clinical
practice. Updates are prepared by the DynaMed Editorial Team
<http://www.ebsconewsletter.com/eletra/gow.cfm?z=dmweeklyupdate%2C196211
%2C0%2C1104010%2Cb11> which includes 28 clinicians from multiple
disciplines
Access is now available without authentication on the CKS page in the
top right hand corner. : http://cks.library.nhs.uk
I have a couple of others I am persuing and will advise when received.
Thanks
Julie
