1st General Conference of the International Microsimulation Association
20-22 August 2007 Radisson SAS Palais Hotel Vienna - Austria
“Celebrating 50 years of Microsimulation“
Conference under the patronage of the City Councillor for Cultural
Affairs and Science
of the Municipality of Vienna
Organised by the International Microsimulation Association and hosted by
the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, Vienna
The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research will host the
1st General Conference of the International Microsimulation Association
in August 2007, with sponsorship from NATSEM, University of Canberra,
Department of Health, Australia, Productivity Commission, Australia,
Department of Education, Science and Training, Australia, Statistics
Norway, Statistics Canada, Department of Work and Pensions, United
Kingdom, Erste Bank Privatstiftung, Austria, Magistrate for Cultural
Affairs and Science, Municipality of Vienna and the Vienna Convention
Bureau.
The conference will bring together experts from around the World from
Governmental (national policy makers and model developers) and
Intergovernmental Organisations, Academics and Consultants. The primary
focus of this International Microsimulation Conference is the analytical
tool of microsimulation models and its applications. The emphasis of the
papers will be Applied (reporting results of model simulations for
policymaking purposes); Theoretical (reporting possible advances in
microsimulation techniques and methodologies); and Descriptive
(describing development of new models, particular modules or
applications). The conference will also include a series of Technical
Workshops on the last day. The workshops are expected to be devoted to
more technical discussions and comparisons of the various
microsimulation models used today in policy formulation worldwide.
The subtitle of the Conference “Celebrating 50 years of Microsimulation“
refers to Guy Orcutt, who first pioneered the idea of applying
microsimulation techniques to socio-economic modelling in the late
1950's and early 1960's. It is expected that around 300 participants
from all parts of the World will attend the conference. We expect to
publish selected papers after the conference, both in a special
conference edition of the International Journal of Microsimulation and
in an edited book collection.
Although the call for papers is long closed, there are a limited number
of places still available for those who wish to attend the conference.
