Doug
Great article mate. Empowerment!!!,
The article comes over as very honest and truthful about the oppression of
disabled people which is a total paradox to the Government
'inclusive-living' policies and practices in empowering all disabled people.
I myself have refused to go into any residential care and they can't make
me.
As you know I recently lost my bungalow having previously before that been
homeless for 2 years and 6 months living within various B&B's, Guest Houses
and Hotels across the East Riding and Hull localities.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council with local Health PCT's/Trusts have wanted
be to go into a specailist residential home for Autistic people, but I have
continually asserted myself and told 'NO' and it's my basic human rights to
have independent living with all my support and assistive technology needs
met.
Health totally misdiagnosed me and tried unsuccessfully in the past to
incacerate me into a residential 'therapeutic-commununity for people living
with personality disorders. I won this battle and also manged to get
diagnosed appropriately which took me until I was 37 years old.
Due to me being a recent disabled flood victim they have put me back in a
hotel in Beverley and as I said they will not foced me into any
institionalised care against my will and wishes.
I would rather f'ing die then live in any institutional care, especially
after all the abuse I suffered in my teens in an adolescent unit which have
left the traumatic scars for life.
All research states very clearly that residential care can cause more
'trauma' and 'meltdowns' (sensory-overload) for NeuroDiverse people living
with Autistic Spectrum Conditions and in my opinion and experiences it no
better for other disabled people with other impairments too.
We all know what The Zimmers thinks about residential care and the disabled
peoples' movement share the same concerns too those within our older
communities.
