There are likely to be two vacancies for statistics officers at SFC.
These will be advertised in due course, but I would welcome informal
enquiries from statisticians who may be interested.
Key aspects of the work of the statistics branch in SFC include
collection, management and analysis of very large data sets, liaising
with HESA and HEFCE on data collection and statistical issues in Higher
Education, the construction and running of funding models, advising
colleagues on statistical issues, assisting in commissioning processes
for external consultants (e.g. in connection with surveys) and general
in-house statistical consultancy.
The branch uses SAS and MS-Excel extensively, and specific skills in at
least one of these demonstrated in employment are essential. Experience
of other statistical packages (for data analysis and production in
employment) is essential in the absence of SAS experience. Expertise in
other MSOffice products (e.g. MS-Access) is highly desirable. A first
degree in statistics or with substantial statistics content, or a
postgraduate qualification in statistics is essential.
We will provide job descriptions and person specifications at the time
of advertisement.
Salary for these posts will be on a scale from 22737 to 30989. The
initial salary on appointment will reflect previous experience.
These appointments are not suitable for new statistics graduates
without first hand experience of the use of statistical packages in
employment. Candidates should have some years of experience in producing
statistical material (including tables of data and analyses) for the
direct purposes of their employer.
Please feel free to phone or (preferably) e-mail me if you are
interested in discussing these positions.
