Thanks to all who answered my question about averages. It was very clear how
to handle the issue.
Now, I want to treat the same issue but in another direction:
I have a database with Households that report Health Expenditures and Total
Net Income. I made a calculation of the % of income that represents the
expenditure in health in each household. Then I made some estimations of
this % by quintiles of income.
I found something interesting: if I took the average of the percentages by
quintiles, I get the average percentage of income devoted to health by
quintiles of income, but if I calculate the sum of health expenditures and
the sum of incomes (by quintiles of income) and then make the division, the
two figures are not coincident.
In this case what is the proper way for calculating the average %?
Best regards.
