Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to be involved in a new interdisciplinary Research Institute within the University of Oxford?
Founded in 2007, the Oxford-Man Institute of Quantitative Finance is an interdisciplinary research centre with a particular focus on alternative investments. The Institute draws researchers and students from many departments within the University. It has its own building in the heart of Oxford, which houses its faculty, post-docs and students, as well as support staff. It provides excellent research facilities including outstanding computing and data resources.
The Research Officer will support the academic work of the institute by managing, collecting and preparing data for academic analysis. This will include managing databases used by the institute researchers, setting up data cleansing processes to ensure data integrity, merging and cleaning data from various sources, and designing data warehouse structures for optimal storage of research data. They will also assist with methodological design for data collection and preparation
Working with the IT Manager, the Research Officer will help to establish new procedures and systems for data storage and management. They will also provide guidance to research assistants and PhD students within the Institute working on empirical problems.
The successful applicant will be a graduate or equivalent, possessing excellent IT skills, with particular knowledge of databases. They will have demonstrable experience of working with data for academic analysis and knowledge of building custom databases from a variety of sources. Experience of a script writing language and excellent communication skills are essential.
