Lectureship in Biostatistics

The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine, Biostatistics Unit,
at the University of Zurich invites applications for a Lectureship in
Biostatistics.
The candidate should
* have a PhD in Statistics or in a related field
* have publications in Biostatistics in international journals, with
clinical or epidemiological applications
* have very good programming skills in R, C, or similar
* be interested in interdisciplinary research and statistical
consulting
* speak German or be willing to learn German
The appointee will contribute to the Biostatistics research in the
Department of Social and Preventive Medicine currently being
undertaken by a group which includes Professor Leonhard Held,
Professor Burkhardt Seifert, three post-doctoral researchers and four
PhD students. Current research areas include: Analysis of longitudinal
data, Markov chain Monte Carlo methods and Bayesian inference,
nonparametric regression, statistical genetics, spatial statistics,
and methods for infectious disease surveillance. The Biostatistics
Unit cooperates with many institutes within the Faculty of Medicine,
but has also close connections to the Faculty of Science and to the
Seminar for Statistics at ETH Zurich. For more details about the

The appointee will be expected to develop their own programme of
research in statistical methods for clinical or epidemiological
applications, and will be encouraged to develop collaborative research
with other groups in the Faculty of Medicine. Among other duties and
responsibilities are statistical consulting and teaching within the
Faculty of Medicine as well as in a Masters Programme in Applied
Statistics/Biostatistics. Interest in obtaining the postdoctoral
lecture qualification (habilitation) and the acquisition of external
research projects is expected.
