Hi,
just bouncing a few ideas, have you considered the thorn tree, and hollow,
as a symbolic reference of entrance to 'otherworld' dimensions found in
irish folk tales? also the 'hollow' as portrayed in the myth of the descent
of Inanna? although this is perhaps more specific to the underworld
dimension?
I would recommend the following reading/observing material ;- 'Signs and
Symbols' by Adrian Frutiger, Studio Editions, as a helpful source for design
work. It appears to be 'dry' in content, not as colourful as the previous
reference, 'Magical Symbols' but is full of useful graphic references and
treatments, and has a small section on signs of pseudoscience and magic.
