The other thing that seems to have been happening is doctors who want to do a
competitive hospital speciality but are worried about unemployment applying for
two posts in their speciality of choice and two in general practice and getting
appointed to the VTS posts first round. Then when people turn down offers in the
hospital speciality (as a result of getting more than one offer), a lot of good
applicants have already accepted posts elsewhere.
I have a gut feeling that with the sort of personality attracted to EM (as well as with
the training posts available there), as a speciality we will lose a disproportionate
number to Australia/ New Zealand.
