Engineering Press Officer
£23,000 - 26,000

* Do you care how science and engineering are covered in the media?
* Are you passionate about getting the voices of engineers and scientists into the media coverage about climate change?
* Do you shout at the TV when science is covered badly?

The Science Media Centre (SMC) is an independent press office for science in the headlines which has built up an impressive reputation with the UK national news media since opening in 2002.
Thanks to funding from the Engineering and Technology Board (ETB), we are looking to recruit a dedicated Engineering Press Officer whose role will be to deal with the breaking news stories on issues such as climate change, the energy debate, natural disasters, flooding, the safety of Wi-Fi, nuclear waste, terrorism and much much more. Your job will be to recruit new engineers to our database, set up press briefings on topical engineering and technology themes, answer media enquiries and liaise with the engineering community.
As a press office that focuses on controversial stories and the big stories that hit the headlines, this job is not a role for the faint-hearted or for people who favour a quiet life. But life at the SMC is never boring and always fun.
Some experience of working in a press office or similar environment would be preferable.
