Since things were taking a Desert Island Disks turn (non-UKanians: it's an
old radio programme where folk -- "castaways" -- choose 8 favourite pieces
of music & one book; they get the Bible & complete Shakespeare for free) I
was wondering what non-anglos get for free in place of the free books, since
it is obvious cultural imperialism to assume that EVERYONE would want to
read the Bible & Shakespeare if they were provided. Or would they follow
Bakhtin's example and use them for cigarette papers?
