Thanks very much, friends, for good wishes. Being shortlisted is a real
thrill, and on my CV for life of course whatever happens. There are 3 other
poets with first collections on the list, and they are all younger than my
children! Patrick, I'm sure you in particular will relate to this -- shows
we're not finished yet.
When the list came I was sure it was about one of the 2 Arrowhead poets we'd
entered, and read it several times before I recognised my own name. It's
taken another few days to begin to believe it.
There were times when I didn't think I would finish this book -- it took 11
years, alongside other things of course. And I'm especially thrilled,
because I knew the subject was risky. The reviews so far have been 3 brill
and 1 foul, and I suppose shortlisting must count as another good review!
Thank you, people, and do cross your fingers for me for 3 October.
joanna
