Hello,
At the University of Winchester, we have a total of 6 study rooms in the Library. The keys for the rooms are issued from the enquiry desk, on a first-come, first-served basis, on 3 hour loans (no renewal allowed). There is no booking system. The rooms all contain desks and chairs, as well as a computer, a TV and a combined DVD/video player. During term time, the demand for these rooms dramatically exceeds supply, and they are a constant source of complaint amongst our students.
We have discussed various alternatives to the current system and I would now like to ask how your library manages its study room allocation. In particular:
How many study rooms does your library have?
Do you have a booking system? If so, what form does it take? What problems can occur from this system? (e.g. when students don't show up)
How long are students allowed to stay in the rooms?
Are rooms only given to groups?
What facilities are there in the rooms?
Many thanks and best wishes,
Emma Woods
