Job: Biostatisticians / Epidemiologists in Singapore
The Clinical Trials and Epidemiology Research Unit (CTERU) is a national
organization funded by the National Medical Research Council which
provides core infrastructure to support clinical research in Singapore.
This is done by providing expert methodology, project management, IT and
statistical support to enable clinical trials, epidemiological and
evidence-based medicine studies to be conducted to international
standards.
The Unit is seeking to hire biostatisticians / epidemiologists who will
provide expertise for the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials
and other clinical research projects. This will involve interacting with
clinical personnel, study coordinators, other statisticians and fellow
colleagues. The candidate will also be required to write statistical
analysis plans, scientific reports and collaborative papers, conduct
methodology consultation clinics at various hospitals as well as to
undertake some teaching responsibilities. Training and resources will be
provided as needed. Opportunities for applied methodological research are
strongly encouraged for those interested.
We envision the ideal candidate to have either one of the 2 following
profiles:
1. Possess a basic degree in Statistics or Mathematics with Master¡¯s level
or higher training/experience in biostatistics, epidemiology, public
health or biomedical science.
2. Possess a basic clinical or biological science degree with Master¡¯s
level or higher training/experience in biostatistics, epidemiology, public
health or quantitative methods.
Exceptional candidates with advanced training/experience but without the
dual quantitative-biomedical training/experience are also encouraged to
apply if they can demonstrate a strong foundation, learning potential and
interest for us to build upon.
Candidates in general should be:
1. Passionately interested in the application of quantitative methods to
the problems of healthcare research and be self-motivated and independent
learners.
2. Able to translate clinical research problems into practical and valid
research designs and be able to develop and execute a competent
statistical analysis plan for clinical research data.
3. Proficient in the use of at least one major statistical analysis
package, preferably SAS, SPSS, Stata or S-Plus/R and MS Office
applications.
4. A team player and have a good command of spoken and written English,
in particular the ability to clearly explain the importance of good study
design and to interpret analyses to clinical collaborators.
