in my builds these files are not modified and cannot be removed. It looks
like you or something ran automake in "extract/" any ideas how that
happened?

I guess so, but need to look into fixing the STAR_PLATFORM_SOURCES macro
to do that (don't see these modified files in my build as there aren't
any 64bit libraries, so no platform support).
