The Faculty of Education of the University of Erlangen-Nuernberg (Germany)
is seeking to appoint a
Junior Professor (W1)
in Sports and Exercise Medicine
commencing 1 April 2008
The position will initially be filled for three years. The appointment may
be extended for another three years after a positive evaluation. For a
successful candidate, after a subsequent appointment procedure, a further
continuation will be possible in the rank of a permanent W2 professor
(tenure track).
The junior professor’s tasks include scientific research in the field of
sports and exercise medicine with a special focus on physical
activity-related health promotion as well as teaching both undergraduate
and graduate classes in sports and exercise medicine and sport biology in
all sports scientific courses of study (courses for physical education
teachers, Sport Science (Diploma) with a special focus on sport for adults
and older people, future MA course “Physical Activty and Health”).
In addition to in-depth knowledge of all traditional fields of sport
medicine, special expertise is required in the area of age and
disease-related disorders of the locomotor system as well as their
prevention and rehabilitation. The junior professor is expected to
cooperate closely with the other divisions of the Institute of Sport
Science and Sport, especially with respect to the establishment of a
special area of research in Motor Control and Neuroscience and closer
interdisciplinary networking both within and outside the university.
Applicants for the post will be required to have a university degree in
human medicine and a license to practice medicine and qualifications
and/or experience in teaching as well as competence and experience in
academic research, documented as a rule by a medical doctorate (research
doctorate/higher doctoral degree) completed with distinction or honours.
Applicants should be qualified medical specialists, preferably in
orthopaedics, neurology, or internal medicine and have an additional
qualification in sports medicine. A university degree in Sport Science is
highly desirable. Applicants who were employed as a junior lecturer or
academic research assistant during their doctoral or post-doctoral phase
may not have exceeded nine years of employment in this function.
