Spoken like a true Mac user :-)
I think that should be "best supported beats first", and should be an
incentive to create a single suite of spatial analysis tools within a
common framework.
Would any of the nascent or established open source GIS packages
provide a good start?
I find GRASS almost impossible to use, having been brought up on
MapInfo and ArcGIS, and the way it's put together suits environmental
monitoring rather than social science uses. Quantum GIS looks
promising and I need to download a whole raft of new things to try
out the GRASS integration (which hopefully makes GRASS easier to use)
and SQL integration (which should allow me to do geodemographic
analysis again!).
