Postgraduate Conference - Call for Papers
The Department of Religions and Theology, School of Arts, Histories and
Cultures, University of Manchester is holding the following conference on
Wednesday January 16th 2008
Concepts of Justice and Law in Christianity, Judaism and Islam: theoreticians
and practitioners engage in dialogue
The purpose of this conference is to bring together theoreticians of Justice and
Law in Christianity, Judaism and Islam and practitioners from each of these
traditions. By practitioners I refer not only to people involved in the
practice of the Law and/or Justice (solicitors, barristers, judges, QC¡¦s,
police, prison officers, the probation service etc). I want to include a much
broader understanding of these concepts and wish to include people whose faith
intimately informs their work. This could, for example (these lists are not
exhaustive and are designed to serve as a guide only), include
ľ those working for voluntary or statutory agencies providing social,
educational or medical care - child and/or family care, conflict resolution or
mediation services, asylum seekers/refugees, those who are socially excluded by
virtue of their age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic and/or religious
background, mental, physical or educational status
ľ those working for economic justice, poverty reduction, the faith based
understandings and organisation of banking and financial services
ľ those working for environmental justice
