Conference Theme:
East Asian Social Policy research network (EASP) conferences have attempted
to enhance the quality and quantity of research on fast changing East Asian
social policies, and to provide a forum for exchanging ideas for
researchers. As it will be the first EASP conference outside the U.K., the
fourth conference particularly aims to promote and facilitate academic
exchange and network among scholars and doctoral students who are based in
East Asian countries, as well as in other parts of the world.
The main focus of the fourth EASP conference is to explore the way East
Asian welfare regimes restructure the responsibility of care between the
state, the market and the family (and the voluntary sector). Care is
increasingly becoming a crucial topic in East Asia welfare regimes under
acute demographic pressures, increasing women's labour market
participation, and related societal transformations. It will provide a
forum for discussing the specific pressures East Asian countries are
facing, for analysing principles and ideas of relevant social policies, for
examining implementation and outcomes of recent reforms, and for exploring
patterns of reforms and the likely future direction.
Call for paper and panel proposal:
Papers are invited which address the overall theme 'Restructuring Care
Responsibility: Dynamics of Welfare Mix in East Asia' or sub-themes as
below. Papers may be comparative, or case studies which have broader
implications for other East Asian countries and/or for the development of
theory and of research methods. Particularly papers with gender and/or
minority sensitive approaches are encouraged. We also welcome panel
proposals which address the overall theme and/or the sub-themes. Those
wishing to organise a panel should submit a panel proposal which includes
the title and objective of panel (250-300 words), the details of panel
