Alfred Douglas would be pleased, as it's his language (with the help
of friends). Wilde wrote the play in French. For my money it works
better in German in the Strauss opera. But I'll confess to a limited
appreciation of fin du siecle decadence, which always strikes me as
less than sincere.

Wilde's poetry in that production was unnervingly
