How I do agree with you but funnily enough I too received something in
the post on stress today. It is 'Raising awareness of stress in
developing countries: protecting workers health series No 6' and you can
download it free from www.who.in/occupational_health .
Unlike the article you mention this is not aimed at the UK because we
are supposed to be 'developed' however, I shall be using what it
contains as there is much in there that directly relates to the UK - not
least the 2 sample questionnaires and it fits very nicely with the HSE
standards; risk assessment etc.
I can truly recommend this book,
Greta

It's obviously the week for it. I have just taken delivery of this
month's Nursing Management with a front cover headline about Managing
stress in the workplace. It is written by an American and is all about
complimentary therapies, with no mention of the UK legislative
framework, risk assessment or anything else that is relevant to UK
nursing managers, managing stress at work. I have nothing against
Americans - I have lots of close relatives over there. I have nothing
against complimentary therapies either. I do though have a problem with
articles in serious professional journals, written by authors who appear
to have little grasp of the wider issues and that give the impression
that workplace stress needs nothing more than a bit of meditation on the
part of the stressed employee.

Dear All,
Have you seen this month's (June 2007) 'Occupational Health'
magazine, pages 21, 22, 23 ??
The article relates to NHS Plus aiming to bring OH to the masses,
however, I am left wondering what relationship the accompanying images
have to article. The images are all of a clinical (hospital based)
nature and in no way relate to OH, and definitely not to OH provision
with regard to small/medium sized companies outside of the NHS.
Is this a case of the OH magazine 'taking their eye off the ball'
here ??
Regards, Bob
