Ben and Chris -
Thank you both for your information. My concern was about the
journalist, the NYT and for a situation, as described, pertaining
within the USA.
I am well aware that there is "a lot going on" and I'll have a beer
with you anytime, Ben, during which I would suggest you could well
direct your information to Stephanie Strom and the New York Times -
which was the point of my message. I had hoped that someone -
preferably from the other side of the pond - would put her right.
I could happily share a beer with Chris too (this is my invitation),
during which we could explore something of the precedents of current
disaster preparedness in the South Pacific, especially in Papua New
Guinea (PNG), Samoa and the Cook Islands, and in Tonga, Fiji, Niue,
Tuvalu and Kiribati as well, from the 1970s when - it seemed - it was
mostly me at the bequest of The Commonwealth, and then of the UN,
that was doing anything at all (with the notable exception of James
Cook University) - and especially with regard to results there
surely were "not fully absorbed".
I will "sit in the garden (unless its raining). Breathe and smile!"
in my own time and when I have nothing else to do - a situation I am
unable to foresee. In the meantime, I will continue to comment upon
and to counter in my small way, some of what I see as wrong in the
world - especially in those parts of it of which have provided me
with intensive, rigorous and recorded experiences. My thanks go to
the NAT-HAZ-DIS network that enables me to do so - if not always as
effectively as I would have wished.
James
