Andy
At the time when Steph was doing his initial feasibility study I asked this
same question to this list on your behalf and reported back the results.
The Old Mills engine is NOT the oldest but non-the-less it is very important
AND the ONLY surviving engine (horizontal/vertical/pumping/winding /etc)
from the Somerset & Bristol Region
I'll summarise the last set of replies for you and forward them off list
Any additional comments from list member would of course also be welcome

Subject: [MINING-HISTORY] Is this the oldest horizontal steam winder?
Bristol Museums Galleries & Archives look after the 1861 twin cylinder steam
winder from Old Mills colliery near Radstock in Somerset uk. We think it's
the oldest surviving colliery horizontal winder in captivity ... unless you
know otherwise. We'd love to hear.
