Miners barracks or lodgings - info needed
The Cornwall Buildings Preservation Trust would be very grateful for
information about any surviving barracks buildings - anywhere.
We are aware of the Miners Lodgings at Luckett in the Tamar Valley
(built in the 1870's by ? New Great Consols Mining Co, for 20-50
arsenic mine workers). This consisted of two large rooms - a
stone-walled eating room below, timber-walled dormitory above, and
lodging keeper's accommodation at one end.
We understand that it may now be the sole survivor, but it is under
some threat. Funding is being urgently sought to restore it.
Can you please tell us if you know of any barracks still surviving,
and the form they take ??
