Dear All
I am pleased to announce that the Iolanthe Midwifery Trust, which offers annual awards to midwives and midwifery students as well as the series of Iolanthe Research Fellowships for PhD students, has a new patron. Baroness Cumberlege, who in 1993 headed the expert group that produced the pioneering policy document Changing Childbirth, has agreed to work with the trust in this role.
Since the publication of Changing Childbirth, Julia Cumberlege has maintained a strong interest in policy and practice related to the maternity services. Among the numerous roles in which she currently plays an active part are being Patron both of the National Childbirth Trust and the Birth Centre Network UK; Vice President of both the Royal College of Midwives and of Nursing; a Senior Associate of the King's Fund; an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians; and a Trustee of Cancer Research UK.
