Dear All,
You may remember that I sent out an enquiry recently concerning Local
Authority museums and their websites.
Firstly, I am hugely grateful to all those of you that responded, both
on-list and off. You provided a lot of really valuable and candid
information and this has helped us enormously.
As promised, I have written up the outcome of the consultation into a short
report. Obviously, because this was an informal email survey rather than a
full piece of research, it is a little short on numerical data. That said, I
think it presents a pretty strong and compelling argument.
The report is summarised on the Collections Link website at
http://www.collectionslink.org.uk/online_publishing/la_sites. There is also
a PDF download of the full report, which you will find linked on this page.
I feel that this is an important issue, and relates to some important
principles about the kinds of services which museums are asked to provide. I
would welcome any and all feedback on the report, and particularly any
thoughts about whether it is worth following up with a more concerted piece
of research work in due course.
In the meantime, I hope you will find the report interesting and useful. Do
please feel free to use it as part of your discussions with your Authority.
With many thanks once again,
Nick
