Senior Library Assistant (Access Projects) – half-time post (fixed term)

Building on the University’s long record of support for local and regional
initiatives to widen access to higher education, the Access Lancaster
project is an outreach activities programme aimed at encouraging young
people from groups under-represented in higher education to consider
whether they might wish to study at university. An outgoing and
enthusiastic librarian with a demonstrable flair for promotional
activities is required for SKIRL (Skills in Information Retrieval for
Learning), the Library strand of this wide-reaching project.
The core role of this post will be to liaise with schools and other
parties targeted by Access Lancaster; to participate in the design and
delivery of activities, presentations and projects to develop information
skills; and to provide administrative support for the small SKIRL team
and other colleagues involved in the delivery of the programme and other
outreach activities.
Applicants should have a degree or postgraduate qualification in
librarianship or information science and relevant experience in a
professional library position. They should possess excellent
organisational, inter-personal and IT skills and be able to demonstrate a
creative and flexible approach to their work.
The post is half-time (18¼ hours per week). Core times to be agreed with
the successful candidate who will be expected to work flexibly to maximise
take-up of project activities. The post is available for 12 months.
