Dealing with diversity
Diversity is an issue that continues to grow in importance in libraries, from both customer service and staff relations perspectives. This full-day interactive workshop led by Forum Interactive of Edinburgh will be of interest to frontline staff as well as to managers who have to draw up and implement relevant policies and procedures.
Scenario
Compliance with legislation can be difficult as it doesn't take into account the human factor. Forum Interactive will present a scenario in which conflict arises when one person's right to express their religious beliefs clashes head on with another person's right to express their sexuality. Via a highly innovative format using a team of actors, attendees will grapple with the issues involved in compliance with legislation in the real world.
Objectives
At the conclusion, participants should be able to:
· Understand the complexity of compliance with diversity/equality regulations in the workplace
· Identify attitudes and behaviours which may be problematic
· Explore how such attitudes and behaviours may be addressed
· Explore how employers could create a non-discriminatory workplace culture
