=============================================================================
29th June 2007, Cambridge, England, UK & New York, USA
Cambridge Journals hit a new high in the recent Thomson Scientific 2006
Journal Citation Reports® (JCR). Behavioral and Brain Sciences has attained
the top position of all 1768 journals indexed in the Social Science
Citation Index (SSCI). It is also ranked top in the category of Behavioral
Sciences in the Science Citation Index (SCI). Other Cambridge published
journals ranked as number 1 in their categories include Journal of
Navigation in the SCI and American Political Science Review and The China
Quarterly in the SSCI.
Cambridge journals also outperform their competitors with an average
increase in Impact Factor of 13.2% against an average of 6.9% for the
journals within their subject categories. Two Cambridge journals, AI EDAM
and Journal of Modern Asian Studies, showed outstanding increases of 216%
and 140%, respectively.
Over a quarter of Cambridge journals fall within the top 10 of their
categories when ranked by Impact Factor. Bulletin of Entomological
Research, Microscopy and Microanalysis, and Psychological Medicine are
placed in the top five journals in SCI categories. In the SSCI, Journal of
Economic History, International Organization and Studies in Second Language
Acquisition are in the top five journals in their categories.
In the SCI, the four journals published on behalf of the Nutrition Society
(British Journal of Nutrition, Nutrition Research Reviews, Proceedings of
the Nutrition Society and Public Health and Nutrition) have seen rises
ranging from 11% to 29%, compared to an average rise of 3.0% in their
categories. The Impact Factor of The International Journal of
Neuropsychopharmacology, published on behalf of the CINP, rose by 30%
compared with an average of 4.5% for the categories in which it is listed.
In the SSCI, the Impact Factor of Environment and Development Economics,
published in association with the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics
rose by 111%, compared with an average rise of 12.9% for journals in it
category. Social Philosophy and Policy, published on behalf of The Social
Philosophy and Policy Foundation, demonstrated a rise of 136%, compared
with 10.7% for its categories.
The driving force behind these increased Impact Factors is an ongoing
strategy of development across all areas of Journals publishing at
Cambridge University Press. Cambridge Journals Director, Simon Ross,
commented, "Quality and performance measures in journals publishing should
be based on a combination of factors but these results clearly demonstrate
the increased value of Cambridge Journals."
