The post



The School's strategic plan calls for a substantial expansion of faculty
numbers over the next four years. The School has recently launched
several new marketing programmes, alongside other initiatives. The post,
based in the International Management and Organisation Group, offers the
opportunity to work in a vibrant, fast growing and forward looking
multi-disciplinary School that gives high priority to undertaking
internationally recognised research.


The School's objectives include attaining an excellent research rating,
expanding international links, and attracting high quality faculty from
across the world.


Role Purpose


To contribute to the implementation of the School's strategy through
design, development and delivery of a range of programmes of study in
several of the following and related areas:



*       organisation theory and practice;
*       organisational behaviour;
*       international business and management;
*       international business strategy and globalization;
*       organisational change and learning
*       human resource management.
*       At Senior Lecturer level the postholder would also be expected
to lead on these developments.

Main Responsibilities



*       To teach and examine courses at all levels, ie undergraduate,
postgraduate and/or higher research degree students, through lectures,
seminars and personal supervision.
*       To provide academic leadership in the development of appropriate
modules and curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate students
*       To develop and apply innovative teaching approaches and
materials to enable learning and enthuse students
*       To develop approaches to teaching and learning which are
appropriate for your subject area and reflect developing practice
elsewhere
*       To undertake the full range of responsibilities in relation to
supervision, marking and examining to ensure that student progress is
being monitored and reported in line with the School's procedures
*       To plan, design and co-ordinate broad research activities and
programmes
*       To contribute to the development of research strategies in the
School
*       To undertake high quality research, published in top ranked
international scholarly journals, and attract external research grants
*       To undertake administrative responsibilities in line with the
School's organisation and structure, contributing as an active citizen
to the life of the School

In addition at Senior Lecturer level:



*       To lead of the advancement of the development of learning and
teaching
*       To act as a coach and role model through excellent practice and
mentoring of colleagues
*       To promote and market the work of the School in the subject area
both nationally and internationally

Dimensions



*       Teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and
supervision of research students; appropriate administrative role;

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required



*       PhD
*       a strong profile of successful research achievement, with
publications in top-ranked international journals;
*       an active interest in joining the IMO Group's programme of
research;
*       the ability to contribute to the development and strengthening
of international links;
*       a record of successful and innovative teaching;
*       evidence of a capability to undertake administrative
responsibilities such as programme administration.
*       For appointment at Senior Lecturer level, in addition to the
above essential criteria, you will have an outstanding publication
record at the highest level and have demonstrated excellence in teaching
and administration.

Job Features



*       Planning and Organising
*       Plan for and set teaching objectives over a number of years
*       Plan and manage own teaching and tutorials as agreed with the
Head of School.

*       Involved in strategic planning in research, teaching and
management/administrative duties

About the International Management and Organisation (IMO) Group


The IMO Group teaches and conducts research in international business,
HRM, and organisational studies. The Group is actively developing an
international focus and undertakes joint research with partners in
Europe, Brazil, Mexico, China, India and Hong Kong, among others.
Members of the Group teach on undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The Group has particular teaching and administrative responsibilities
for the MSc in International Business, which was launched in October
2003 and the CIPD accredited MSc in HRM, launched in Oct 2005. It is
also expanding its portfolio of doctoral research. Within the subject
areas covered by the IMO Group, current fields of research are:


Organisation Studies: New organisational forms; organisational
co-evolution and transformation; corporate structure and governance;
international business organisation.

Human Resource Management: The changing nature and future of work;
international & comparable HRM; training and development policies and
practices; industrial relations policies; the importance of organization
change on careers; the impact of private equity firms and managing for
shareholder value on HRM.


International Business: Management in emerging economies (currently
focusing on Brazil and China); contrasting capitalisms (governance and
market systems); corporate social responsibility in Africa; the
internationalization of firms; international business alliances and
acquisitions; international transfer of practices.


The Centre for Industrial Business and Organisation Research (CIBOR),
established in February 2003, is closely associated with the IMO Group.
