PN Bucks was the first county survey to be published by the EPNS. The
criteria for inclusion are not stated explicitly, so have to be deduced.
The entries are arranged by hundreds, and then by ecclesiastical parish
(presumably ancient parish). For each parish, the parish name is treated
first, followed by other names in alphabetical order. ["Monks and Princes
Risborough" has two alphabetical sequences, presumably for Monks Risborough
and Princes Risborough respectively , but as that appears to be unique it
may be a late change. We can't exclude the possibility that "Speen" was
thus omitted accidentally, but no entry for it appears in Carole Hough's "A
Finding List to Addenda and Corrigenda".]
The latest sources to be used seem to be the 1st edition 1" OS map of
c.1825, and a county map of 1826. Headforms are taken from the 1" OS Map
(Popular Edition), with additional entries for "lost" places and names only
found on the 6" map for which there are early forms. That there is no entry
for "Speen" suggests that it was not on the 1st edition 1" OS map, and that
no earlier forms were found. It may not even have been on the 1" OS Map
(Popular Edition) - if it was, it was treated as a "modern" name.
