"How to do open access publishing" A workshop at the CMS conference in
Manchester (www.cms5.org),
organised and facilitated by 'ephemera: theory & politics in
organization (www.ephemeraweb.org);
Wednesday, 11 July, Session 2, 5-6pm
The ephemera collective would like to invite you to a workshop at CMS
that discusses the theory, practice and politics of open access
publishing. We think that open academic publishing (i.e. the
non-commercial publishing of academic content free of charge) has become
an ever more important tool for both researchers and practitioners. In
times of ever increasing prices for academic journals and books and the
resulting exclusion of large audiences this seems to us an important
topic to discuss at a conference that aims to 'reconnect critical
management'.
As you might know, the journal 'ephemera' has published academic debates
that are relevant to the CMS community for the past seven years. We
would like to use this workshop to proliferate the idea of open access
publishing, as we would like to see many more open access journals
publishing their content free of charge. Besides the obvious political
implications of open access publishing, we hope this workshop will be
very practical, with members of the editorial collective of ephemera
offering very hands-on advice on how to establish and run an open access
journal.
