The transmitter is massive, but the pager is tiny:
http://www.scope-uk.com/products/geo_40a7.htm
It must be possible to trigger them from a switch or RF signal, since the
Environmental Control companies have previously used them. Thus the
transmitter would live at school, the pager with the parents and the person
would use a switch to trigger it (through an RF trigger). I could be going
mad though and this isn't what the companies have used, you'd have to ask
them. (-;
Cheers.

The SCOPE pager has the range, but how do you implement it practically for
the child. The mains version has a small internal battery and the DC one
needs an external battery, The company says it will need about 7Ah at 12v.
Neither unit is particularly small. I guess you could mount it in a backpack
of some sort.
I have also found this, (we have a similar need),
http://www.tunstall.co.uk/4_1_5_6ruggedisedalarm.htm Although the page
seems to be unavailable at the moment. It is basically a battery powered
Tunstall care alarm with a GSM phone providing the usual features of the
Tunstall system but with a mobile capability.
I have also just come across DOVE Technology,
http://www.dovetech.co.uk/comms-wirelessCallSystems.htm
Who seem to have a range of options.
Hope this helps.

150-200 meters - the SCOPE pager should work OK:
http://www.scope-uk.com/products/pagetek2.htm
This is the one SRS and some other companies used to /still (?) use.
I've had it work up to 1k previously, the data sheet quotes a mile.
Cheers.

Subject: Long distance pager
Dear all,
I have seen a child with a need for a long distance pager. The child goes to
a school which is about 150-200 meters from his home and he needs to be able
to call for his parents (who stay at home). The possum pager reaches upto 75
meters, GEWA don't do a pager and I am not sure about SRS. Is there any way
of achieving this, preferably without using a telephone?
Thank you.
