Assistant Archivist

The Library and Museum of Freemasonry is an independent charitable trust
and registered museum responsible for a world class collection of books and
documents, objects and images associated with the history of Freemasonry.
The Library and Museum acts as the repository for the archives of the
United Grand Lodge of England including material from the eighteenth to the
twentieth centuries. Further information about the collections and access
to our online catalogue is via the website.
We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Archivist to join our small archives
team. As an archivist with a recognised postgraduate qualification in
Archives Administration, you will participate in the full range of
professional duties including accessioning, sorting and arranging resources
in the collection and cataloguing using an automated system. You will also
be expected to participate in records management services and delivery,
including staff training, retrieval and the development of records surveys
and retention schedules.
You will work with library and museum colleagues in a cross-sectoral
environment and will participate in outreach activities, such as enquiry
handling, exhibitions and talks and demonstrate a commitment to making
resources accessible. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated
individual with good communication and organisational skills. Previous
professional archival experience would be an advantage but we welcome
applications from individuals currently completing their archive
qualification.
