UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON
Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS
Trust
UCL MRC Centre of Epidemiology for Child Health
Senior Research Fellow in the development of novel statistical methods for
record linkage
We wish to appoint a Senior Research Fellow to take forward an exciting
programme of work
developing novel statistical methods for record linkage using large scale
data from anonymised
neonatal surveys as a model. This work will be carried out as a
collaboration between the
UCL MRC Centre for Paediatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CPEB) and the
Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Linkage to birth registration records is used to enhance unlinked anonymous
surveys based on
newborn dried blood spots with demographic information using a secure
anonymised linkage algorithm.
We now wish to extend that linkage and as a first step are seeking to
develop and implement novel
statistical methods for record linkage within large-scale datasets. It is
anticipated that this will
lead to further methodological work to link other health related electronic
databases relevant to
the creation of a record linked newborn research biobank. The post holder
will be encouraged to develop
funding proposals for this work, either as a grant or as a post-doctoral
fellowship.
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent experience in biostatistics,
medical statistics or a related field.
Familiarity with the use of a statistical programming language, including,
for example, R, MATLAB, GAUSS, WinBugs,
is essential and experience in working with population health-related
databases desirable.
The successful applicant will work with Dr Mario Cortina-Borja, Professor
Harvey Goldstein, Professor Carol Dezateux,
all at CPEB, and Dr Keith Spicer at ONS. The post is based at CPEB but
analyses of confidential datasets will require
some time to be spent with the ONS office at Titchfield with whom an
honorary contract will be arranged.
Informal enquiries are welcomed by Dr Mario Cortina-Borja,
