The School of Medicine at the University of Sheffield has 4 MRC
studentships (£12,300 + fees) on offer for its Statistical Genetics MSc
starting in Sept 2007.
Statistical genetics involves the development of models and methods for
the analysis and interpretation of genetic data. Recent and developing
advances in high throughput biotechnologies are generating resources of
detailed and diverse genetic data, radically altering the amount and
type of information available for the characterization of genes.
The accumulation of these new genetic resources presents new
opportunities to construct statistical models of biological phenomena
for the purpose of supporting hypothesis-driven biology. This course
aims to prepare and train mathematics and/or statistics graduates to
work in the multidisciplinary field that requires the collaboration of
molecular geneticists, statisticians and computer scientists.
We are keen to attract well-qualified students from
mathematics/statistics backgrounds.
